Drivers Needed
Congregational Care Committee needs volunteers to drive persons to appointments for medical procedures. Often people can't get to appointments because they do not have a person to drive them. If you have questions and/or can volunteer, please send an e-mail to Sandra at galsan@bellsouth.net.

Feeding the Hungry in Our Community
Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries food bank needs additional volunteers.  The
DCCM has served Augusta for about 30 years by providing supplemental food to those in need.  It is supported by 15 area churches, some grants and individual donations.  Most of the food is purchased from Golden Harvest Food Bank but donations of non-perishables including canned meat, vegetables, and fruit are always welcome to stretch limited dollars.

With the poor economy, the number of clients has increased substantially over the past few months.  As a result, more volunteers are needed to help to package and distribute the food.  DCCM is open for distribution from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Mon-Fri.  If you would like to volunteer, packagers are needed from 9:00 – 11:00 on Mon and Fri., and help with distribution is needed on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

If you would like to volunteer one day a week (or even every other week), please contact the director,  LaKeya Stewart, at DCCMAugusta@gmail.com or call 706-722-3530.

Finally, don’t forget to save your plastic grocery bags.  Food donations and bags can be put in the boxes in the Fellowship hall (under the tables by the back door).

MCG Offers HIV Testing At MCCOR
The Medical College of Georgia - Ryan White Outreach Team will be offering free, confidential HIV testing at MCCOR during Sunday services every 4th Sunday of the month thereafter.  The team uses Oraquick® Advance, a rapid HIV test that requires no blood and gives a negative result in 20 minutes or lets them know that further testing is needed in their lab.  The CDC now recommends that everyone age 13-64 gets an HIV test yearly.

Since 1996, the MCG Ryan White Outreach team has provided free, confidential HIV testing, education, counseling and treatment referrals at testing sites throughout the Aiken-Augusta area.  The team is supported through a Ryan White Part C Grant, which provides funding for early intervention services and treatment.  Since 2004 they have been using the MCCOR community room as a place to meet and test individuals who wanted a private testing location.  They also test in the community room on the third Saturday of most months from 11 am to 2 pm.

The mission of the MCG outreach team is early intervention.  Early detection and early   treatment is the key to living with HIV/AIDS.  Thanks to advances in treatment, those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS can now live long and productive lives, if the receive proper, regular treatment.  The only way to know if you are infected is to be tested.  HIV may be in your system for years with no symptoms.  During this time the virus is not only harming you but can infect the ones you love.

For more information about the Medical College of Georgia - Ryan White Outreach Team you can visit www.csrasafetynet.org.  Everyone has a past…don’t let yours harm you or the ones you love.
