Feeding the Hungry in Our Community
Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries food bank needs additional volunteers. The DCCM has served Augusta for about 30 years by providing supplemental food to those in need. It is supported by 15 area churches, some grants and individual donations. Most of the food is purchased from Golden Harvest Food Bank but donations of non-perishables including canned meat, vegetables, and fruit are always welcome to stretch limited dollars.
With the poor economy, the number of clients has increased substantially over the past few months. As a result, more volunteers are needed to help to package and distribute the food. DCCM is open for distribution from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Mon-Fri. If
you would like to volunteer, packagers are needed from 9:00 – 11:00 on Mon and Fri., and help with distribution is needed on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. If you would like to volunteer one day a week (or even every other week), please contact the director, LaKeya Stewart, at DCCMAugusta@gmail.com or call 706-722-3530. Visit their website at www.dccmaugusta.org.
